Zayn’s journey took an unexpected turn when he broke away from The Bloodline and aligned himself with Kevin Owens, turning on his former allies at the Royal Rumble to save Owens from further punishment.
A highlight of Zayn’s year included headlining the Elimination Chamber PLE in February against Roman Reigns, a match that took place in Zayn’s hometown. At WrestleMania 39, Zayn and Owens secured victory over The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles, enjoying a substantial reign before relinquishing the titles and parting ways.
The Recent Angle and Hiatus Request
On a recent episode of Raw, WWE orchestrated an injury angle during Zayn’s match with Drew McIntyre, with McIntyre ultimately prevailing. Following the match, McIntyre attacked Zayn while he was attended to by the medical staff.
Dave Meltzer, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, reported that Zayn has formally requested time off, a request that WWE has granted. While it is not confirmed that the injury angle directly prompted Zayn’s hiatus, Meltzer notes that Zayn had sought time off recently.

Meltzer’s report states, “I don’t have it confirmed [that] Zayn will be off for a while due to that [injury angle], but do know that he had asked for time off recently and was granted it.”
The exact commencement date of Zayn’s hiatus remains unclear, but information suggests that he was not scheduled to participate in the December 28th show in Laval, Quebec—a show typically centered around him.
