Syracuse Football Secures Accomplished Jeff Nixon as Offensive Coordinator
Fran Brown’s Strategic Move: Jeff Nixon Takes the Helm of Syracuse Orange Offense
In a pivotal decision that significantly shapes the trajectory of the Syracuse Orange offense, head coach Fran Brown has appointed Jeff Nixon as the team’s new offensive coordinator. Recognized as a crucial hire for any first-time head coach, this move brings in a seasoned professional with an extensive coaching history, particularly in developing running backs at both collegiate and professional levels.
Nixon’s Impressive Coaching Pedigree
Jeff Nixon, the current running backs coach for the New York Giants, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. A Penn State alum and Pennsylvania native, Nixon’s roots align with the Northeast market, providing Fran Brown with valuable connections. This strategic hire is a testament to Nixon’s coaching prowess and familiarity with Brown, having spent two seasons together at Baylor.
Reunion with Fran Brown: A Dynamic Coaching Duo
The synergy between Jeff Nixon and Fran Brown dates back to their time at Baylor, where Nixon served as co-offensive coordinator from 2017 to 2019. During this period, Fran Brown held the position of associate head coach. Although Fran Brown returned to Temple in Jeff’s third year, their professional paths converged once again when Nixon joined the NFL ranks. After working with Matt Rhule at the Carolina Panthers in 2020, Nixon ascended to the role of assistant head coach (offense) in 2022 before taking on the running backs coach position with the New York Giants this year.
Leadership Transition at Syracuse
Jeff Nixon’s appointment marks the fourth change in Syracuse’s offensive coordinator position in as many years, following Jason Beck (2023), Robert Anae (2022), and Sterlin Gilbert (2020-21). With Fran Brown’s pronounced emphasis on a robust running game, the Orange offense is poised to leverage the skills of standout running back LeQuint Allen and other backs. The challenge lies in optimizing the passing game, featuring the return of Oronde Gadsden and new additions, including quarterback Kyle McCord.
Over 25 years of offensive experience at the NFL and collegiate levels.

Anticipation Builds: A New Era for Syracuse Football
As Syracuse football enters a new era under the guidance of Fran Brown and offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon, anticipation builds regarding the team’s offensive dynamics. With Nixon’s proven ability to navigate playcalling responsibilities and Fran Brown’s strategic vision, the Syracuse Orange aims to make a substantial impact in the upcoming football season. The spotlight now turns to the field, where the synergy between coaching brilliance and player talent will unfold, defining the narrative of Syracuse football in the seasons to come.
