The Open Day One Highlights

Daniel Brown has taken a surprising lead on the first day of The 152nd Open, finishing with a six-under 65 at Royal Troon. Brown birdied the final hole to edge ahead of 2019 Champion Golfer Shane Lowry by one stroke.

Lowry, who had birdies at the 4th, 7th, 8th, and 11th holes, initially topped the leaderboard with a bogey-free round, capped by an impressive approach shot that set up a birdie at the par-4 18th. However, Brown, ranked world number 272 and who advanced through Final Qualifying earlier this month, matched Lowry with his fifth birdie on the 16th. He then secured the lead with a birdie on the final hole, thanks to a superb approach shot and a confident putt.
