Clay-Chalkville Appoints Stuart Floyd as New Football Coach
Stuart Floyd, a familiar face in the Clay-Chalkville football community, has been chosen as the new head coach for the program. With deep roots in the area, Floyd’s appointment brings a sense of excitement and nostalgia to the team.
A Legacy of Football
Floyd’s connection to football runs deep. Growing up watching his father, Zip Floyd, coach in the Tarrant system for over three decades, Stuart developed a passion for the game early on. His own journey as a player culminated in leading Clay-Chalkville to victory in the 1999 Class 6A state championship as quarterback. Following his playing days, Floyd transitioned seamlessly into coaching, serving as the offensive coordinator for the Cougars during their title-winning seasons in 2014 and 2023.
Embracing the Opportunity
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Floyd shares, “It’s very exciting to be given this opportunity, especially considering it’s my alma mater.” With the departure of former head coach Drew Gilmer, who left a remarkable legacy with two championships and consistent playoff appearances, Floyd steps into the spotlight as the eighth head football coach in Clay-Chalkville history.
Clay-Chalkville Coaching Journey and Achievements
Floyd’s coaching journey has been marked by dedication and success. Starting as a coach at Clay Middle School, he later served as an assistant under Jerry Hood, contributing to the program’s stability and success. His tenure as offensive coordinator saw remarkable offensive performances, including setting records for points and yardage in the Class 6A division. Despite brief stints at other schools, Floyd’s return to Clay-Chalkville reaffirms his commitment to the program and its community.
