On Sunday, the Buffs made significant strides by acquiring three former four-star recruits through transfers, bolstering both defensive prowess and quarterback depth. Among the notable additions is defensive end Quency Wiggins, previously with LSU.
Wiggins, a four-star recruit from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, boasts an impressive track record. In his two seasons at LSU, he participated in nine games, showcasing his skills with seven tackles and a tackle for loss. Standing tall at 6-foot-6 and weighing 265 pounds, Wiggins, the No. 1 prospect in Louisiana in 2022, comes to Colorado with three years of eligibility.
Barnes Brings Alabama Experience to CU’s Defensive Line
Another valuable addition to the Buffs is defensive tackle Anquin Barnes, hailing from Alabama. With two appearances this season and a significant presence at 6-foot-5 and 314 pounds, Barnes adds strength to Colorado’s defensive line. Rated as a four-star prospect in the 2021 class, Barnes had 19 scholarship offers, highlighting his potential impact.
Rising Star: Cordale Russell from TCU Joins Buffaloes
The Buffaloes also secured the talents of receiver Cordale Russell, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound freshman from TCU. With four seasons of eligibility remaining, Russell’s potential adds depth to the receiving corps. Rated as the No. 19 overall player in Texas in the 2023 class, Russell brings promise and skill to the team.

Addressing quarterback depth, the Buffs secured the commitment of Walter Taylor, a three-star prospect from Vanderbilt. Though not heavily recruited, Taylor’s performance at Vanderbilt showcases his potential. Standing at an impressive 6-foot-7, Taylor completed 5 of 15 passes for 44 yards and rushed 30 times for 103 yards and a touchdown. With three years of eligibility, Taylor becomes a key asset and the tallest quarterback in CU history.

Buffaloes’ Transfer Success Continues
Since December 9, Sanders and the Buffs have strategically added 14 transfers, including five offensive linemen, three receivers, and key defensive players. Notably, Taylor joins Kentucky’s Destin Wade, strengthening the Buffs’ quarterback roster and providing essential experience behind starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
