Former Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer settles sexual-assault lawsuit, lawyers say

Former Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer has reached a resolution in a legal dispute with a woman who accused him of assault and sexual misconduct in 2021, according to statements from both parties’ attorneys on Monday.

Bauer was not criminally charged in connection with the allegations. The settlement, which concludes both the woman’s lawsuit and Trevor Bauer countersuit, does not involve a financial exchange between the two parties. However, the accuser will receive a $300,000 payment from her insurance company.

Attorneys for Trevor Bauer, Jon Fetterolf and Shawn Holley, stated, “Both of their respective claims have been withdrawn with prejudice, effective today.”

An attorney for the accuser, identified as Lindsey Hill, named Bryan Freedman with Freedman & Taitelman LLP, described the resolution as “outstanding” and explained the circumstances surrounding it. He stated, “In April 2022, Trevor Bauer sued Lindsey Hill for defamation. In what turned out to be an outstanding resolution for Lindsey, neither Lindsey nor anyone on her behalf paid anything to Bauer. Not a single dollar. Even better, Lindsey received $300,000 dollars from her insurance company. Based on that payment, Lindsey agreed to settle the lawsuit. Now that the lawsuit is over, Lindsey looks forward to helping others.”

Trevor Bauer, a former Dodger, faced allegations of assaulting Hill on two separate occasions at his Pasadena home in 2021, following what she claimed had begun as consensual sexual encounters. These accusations emerged shortly after Bauer had become the highest-paid player in baseball, signing a $102 million contract with the Dodgers.

Trevor Bauer, aged 32, consistently denied the allegations, asserting that the encounters were consensual. Prosecutors chose not to pursue charges in February 2022.

Major League Baseball suspended Bauer for an unprecedented 324 games, a suspension later reduced to 194 games by an independent arbitrator in December 2022. After the suspension, the Dodgers released him, and no other team signed him. He is currently playing in Japan.

Bauer now seeks to restore his reputation in the court of public opinion. In a video posted on X, he stated that the settlement allows him to speak publicly about the case. He accused Hill’s legal team of withholding crucial evidence, including a video allegedly filmed by her in his bed the morning after their sexual encounter, showing her face without visible bruises. Bauer also presented text messages that purportedly indicated her intent to obtain money from him before they met.

It’s important to note that the content of the video has not been authenticated by ABC7.

Bauer expressed his desire to move forward, saying, “Over the last two years, I’ve been forced to defend my integrity and my reputation in a very public setting. But hopefully this is the last time I have to do so as I prefer to remain focused on doing my job – winning baseball games and entertaining fans around the world. So today I’m happy to be moving on with my life.”

However, this may not be the final legal issue Trevor Bauer faces, as he is currently facing a separate lawsuit from a woman in Arizona. She alleges that he held a knife to her throat and choked her until she lost consciousness during an incident in late 2020 that resulted in her becoming pregnant. Bauer was neither arrested nor charged in this case and has countersued, denying the allegations and accusing the woman of faking a pregnancy and attempting to extort money from him. ABC7 typically does not disclose the identities of alleged sexual assault victims, but Hill’s attorneys publicly identified her in a statement on Monday.
