Georgia High School Football Player Found Dead Before State Championship Game
The Meriwether County School System has sadly confirmed the death of 17-year-old Brandon Smith, a member of the Manchester High School Blue Devils football team, just a day before the school’s anticipated state championship game.
In a letter addressed to families, the district expressed profound sorrow, stating they were “heartbroken to hear the news of the tragic and untimely death of one of our student-athletes, Brandon Smith.”

Smith, who was set to play a crucial role in the Georgia 1-A State Football Championship, was reported missing, amplifying concerns before the devastating news surfaced.
Channel 2 Action News sought information from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which confirmed that the Manchester Police Department had requested crime scene processing assistance.
