Maryland Football Faces Exodus: Trio of Players to Enter Transfer Portal

In a significant development for Maryland football, three players have announced their decision to enter the transfer portal when it officially opens on December 4. The trio consists of defensive end Tamarcus Cooley and offensive lineman Ja’Kavion Nonar, who made their intentions public on Tuesday, and defensive back Gavin Gibson, who revealed his decision on Thursday afternoon.

Tamarcus Cooley, a freshman, made appearances in two games for the Terps, recording four total tackles, including one solo tackle and three assists. Hailing from Rolesville, North Carolina, the three-star recruit was ranked 27th overall in his state and 77th nationally among safeties.

Ja’Kavion Nonar, a three-star offensive tackle from Belle Glade, Florida, held the 76th spot among offensive tackles in his class but did not see playing time for Maryland Football during this season.

The departure of Gavin Gibson, a sophomore, marks the most impactful loss among the trio. In his first year at Maryland Football, he registered impressive numbers with 17 total tackles, including 13 solo tackles, four assists, and a sack. Gibson’s sophomore year mirrored this performance, with him accumulating 15 tackles. With other departures in the Terps’ defensive back room, Gibson appeared poised for a significant role as a junior.
