Wolverines Achieve Historic Back-to-Back State Football Championships

In a remarkable feat, the Prince Avenue Christian School Varsity Football team etched its name in the annals of school history by securing the Georgia High School Association Class A | Division 1 State Championship for the second consecutive year. This victory marks the Wolverines as state champions for three of the last four seasons.

The championship game, held at the illustrious Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on December 11th, witnessed a hard-fought battle where the Wolverines triumphed over the Swainsboro High School Tigers with a scoreline of 49 – 32. The relentless effort and dedication of the football team, coupled with the support from the school community, coaches, cheerleaders, and band, contributed to this historic achievement.

Richard Ricketts, Prince Athletic Director, expressed his admiration for the team’s exceptional execution and play, highlighting the behind-the-scenes effort required to deliver such a high-quality performance on the field. He also commended the unwavering support from the broader school community, recognizing the integral role played by cheerleaders and the band in rallying behind the team.

 The Wolverines had an additional cause for celebration as senior quarterback Aaron Philo made history.

Philo broke the Georgia high school record for the most career passing yards, surpassing the previous record held by Trevor Lawrence. Philo’s exceptional talent also saw him tie the state record for the number of touchdowns in a single season. Head Coach Greg Vandagriff expressed his disbelief at Aaron’s accomplishments, emphasizing the incredible nature of breaking the state career passing record in just three seasons as the starter. The coaching staff looks forward to witnessing Philo’s continued success at the next level.

The Wolverines’ back-to-back state championships underscore their dominance on the football field and solidify their status as a powerhouse in Georgia high school football.
