14-Year-Old Houston Boy Succumbs to Brain Injury After Football Game
A 14-year-old student from Houston passed away three weeks following a brain injury sustained while participating in a football game.
Cain Lee, a middle-school athlete at Lutheran South Academy, encountered the injury during a Southwest Football League match on Oct. 11, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.

Lee, a remarkable multi-sport talent standing at 6 feet 1 inch, excelling in baseball, basketball, and track, succumbed to the injury at Texas Children’s Hospital on Oct. 30 after nearly three weeks in a coma.
Friends and family remembered him not only for his athletic prowess but also for his remarkable personality.
“Never would you hear about Cain telling you about anything he did,” remarked Lee’s baseball coach Darrin Forse. “It was always about what somebody else did. That was the person he was. It was never about his accomplishments. It was about somebody else’s accomplishments.”
Lee’s father shared an anecdote with the newspaper about his son’s selflessness, recalling how Cain once gave his own clothes to another student in need.
“He said, ‘Well, he didn’t have anything nice, Dad. So I’ve been sneaking clothes from home to give him my clothes so he wouldn’t be embarrassed when he was in school,’” Cody Lee recounted.
The Professional Baseball Academy’s tribute on Facebook echoed similar sentiments, describing Cain as a “selfless kid” who prioritized others over his own performance.
The Southwest Football League announced a moment of silence before every game for the rest of the season in honor of Cain, as reported by ABC affiliate KTRK-TV.
“Our hearts go to the family during this unimaginable tragedy,” expressed the organization in a letter to parents, as Cain is survived by his parents, a twin brother, and an older brother, according to the Chronicle.
High school football championships are commencing in Vermillion.
