Devin Sanchez: Ohio State Leads, but Texas Keeps the Door Open for Five-Star Corner
Ohio State: Despite an impressive performance with Galena Park North Shore, junior cornerback Devin Sanchez’s potential future with the Texas Longhorns remains uncertain. Following a notable victory in the high school football playoffs against Westlake, Sanchez expressed that while he considers Texas, Ohio State currently holds a prominent position in his considerations.
About Devin Sanchez: Ohio State Leads
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound cornerback, regarded as the top cornerback prospect in the nation for the 2025 recruiting class, hinted at Ohio State’s frontrunner status. Sanchez disclosed, “Right now, Ohio State’s a frontrunner, but Alabama and Texas A&M aren’t far behind.” The decision deadline on Jan. 6, coinciding with the All-American Bowl on NBC, is approaching, and Sanchez implied a preference for Ohio State if they maintain their current trajectory.
Despite Ohio State’s lead, Sanchez acknowledged Texas’s continued effort to recruit him. He mentioned the presence of Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski, along with former Westlake players Ethan Burke and Michael Taaffe during the playoffs. Sanchez emphasized his positive relationship with coach Terry Joseph and head coach Steve Sarkisian, leaving the door open for Texas: “I’ve got a good relationship with coach (Terry) Joseph and coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian), so we’ll see. If they come back in, hopefully, we’ll see. But yeah, they’ve got a chance.”

Sanchez’s impressive abilities on the field were recognized by Westlake coach Tony Salazar, who stated, “He’s as good as advertised. He’s a good physical talent.” Known for his exceptional speed, running a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, Sanchez played a crucial role in North Shore’s victory.
For Texas, the potential recruitment of Devin Sanchez could address the need to strengthen their secondary, even though he is still a junior. The Longhorns, facing departures of key players, could benefit from securing Sanchez’s talents to fortify their defensive lineup under Coach Sarkisian.
