Trent Bray Named Head Coach of Oregon State Football Program

Oregon State University has chosen Trent Bray as the new head coach for the football program, succeeding Jonathan Smith. The appointment was announced on Tuesday, making Bray the 32nd head coach in the program’s 127-year history.

About Oregon State Program

Bray, 41, is a familiar face at Oregon State, having played linebacker for the Beavers from 2002 to 2005. He holds the No. 6 spot on the school’s all-time list with 337 career tackles. Bray’s coaching journey includes serving as an OSU graduate assistant in 2012, linebackers coach in 2013-14 under coach Mike Riley, and returning to OSU in 2018 as the inside linebackers coach under Jonathan Smith. In 2021, he took on the role of defensive coordinator.

Known for his high energy and connection with players, Bray has been credited with transforming Oregon State’s defense. In the 2022 season, the Beavers boasted the top defense in the Pac-12, allowing 20 points and 332 yards per game.

The news conference introducing Trent Bray as the head coach is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Bray’s appointment follows Jonathan Smith’s resignation after six years with the Beavers. Similar to Smith in 2018, Bray steps into the head coaching position for the first time in his career.

Bray’s deep ties to Oregon State, both as a former player and coach, have contributed to his popularity within Beaver Nation. His appointment is expected to bring continued success to the football program.
