USF Football Set for 11th Bowl Appearance in Boca Raton Bowl Against Syracuse
USF Football:-In a highly anticipated matchup, first-year head coach Alex Golesh and the South Florida Bulls (6-6; 4-4 American) are gearing up for their 11th bowl appearance, marking a significant turnaround for the program. This will be their first bowl appearance since 2018 as they face off against Syracuse (6-6; 2-6 ACC) in the Roofclaim.com Boca Raton Bowl at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida, on Thur., Dec. 21.

Notably, the USF Women’s basketball team will also be in action at the West Palm Classic, just 30 minutes away from the bowl site, playing against national powerhouse Baylor at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 21.
USF football’s remarkable five-win improvement over the previous year is the greatest turnaround in the program’s history, tied with Liberty (13-0) as the second-best in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in 2023, following only Northwestern’s six-win improvement.
The Bulls boast a solid 6-4 record in bowl games, securing victories against prominent teams such as Clemson, South Carolina, and Texas Tech. This Boca Raton Bowl marks their fourth appearance in the state of Florida, following the St. Petersburg Bowl (2008), Miami Beach Bowl (2015), and Gasparilla Bowl (2018).
This year, USF Football will make its debut in the Boca Raton Bowl, a game with a decade-long history. To engage fans, there will be a Dual Team Pep Rally on Dec. 20 at the Mizner Park Amphitheater and a Fan Fest on Dec. 21 from 4-7 p.m.
In their first-ever bowl meeting, USF Football and Syracuse, both former BIG EAST Conference members, will renew their rivalry. USF holds an 8-2 series lead, including victories in 2015 and 2016. The upcoming bowl game adds a new chapter to their history.
As the Bulls gear up for this exciting matchup, the program’s achievements under head coach Alex Golesh have garnered attention. Golesh, named one of 15 finalists for College Football News’ Coach of the Year, has overseen a dynamic offense, achieving a 5,000-yard season and potentially securing the program’s first 1,000-yard receiver.

Quarterback Byrum Brown leads the AAC and ranks seventh nationally in total offense, setting a USF season passing record with 3,078 yards. Wide receiver Sean Atkins has also made his mark, setting program season records for receptions and receiving yards.
On the Syracuse side, the Orange, coached by Fran Brown, secured bowl eligibility with a victory over Wake Forest, ending their regular season on a high note. Syracuse’s balanced offense, led by quarterback Garrett Shrader and running back LeQuint Allen Jr., adds another layer of intrigue to this Boca Raton Bowl showdown.
